The following slate of nominees was elected as club officers: President - Karen Hathaway; Vice-President - Linda Ward; Secretary - Eileen White; Treasurer - Sharon Holden; Board - Suzanne Schwab, Joyce Berk, and Joan Meagher. We discussed possible judges for the 2006 specialty, and Tanya volunteered to be trophy chair again.

Several members have been maintaining our summer tradition of becoming immersed in herding. IECC sponsored two American Herding Breeds Association Trials - one in June in Hope, BC, and a second one here in Spokane in July. Both trials had a full entry and resulted in lots of brags for our members.

Brags
Conformation:
Linda Ward reports that her Kitty litter (CH Edenrock The Mask Of Society X CH Sinkona Miss Kitty PT, OA, OAJ) has yeilded it third champion offspring: CH Sinkona's Wind Walker of Susitna. Walker is a blue rough male by owned by Margaret Nelson, Anchorage, Alaska. He earned his first 3-point major in March, followed by a 4 point major at the Collie Specialty in Anchorage in May, and another 3 pt major in July.

Herding

Herding: Three IECC members, along with about a dozen other Spokane dog folk, spent a week in lovely Hope, BC working on their sheep and duck herding skills at Lynn Leach's Downriver Farm. At the end of the week we held an AHBA trial to test our progress. The following weekend, we held another AHBA trial here in Spokane along with an AKC B-course duck trial, so we have lots of new titles and legs to brag about. But our biggest brag is that we were in BC to proudly and soggily participate in the month of June with the least amount of sunshine on record.

In Canada, Linda Ward and her blue smooth CJ finished their Junior Herding Dog title and Linda and her blue rough bitch Diva earned a leg on the level one Ranch Dog course. Back in Spokane, Linda and her blue smooth Kelley finished their level one Herding Trial dog title on ducks with a nice third place run.

Tanya Ward didn't get to go up to Canada because she was home tending to Kit and her new puppy (see below), but back in Spokane, Tanya and her rough sable male Ranger finished his Junior Herding title. And they proved they are not fair weather herders in the process. Tanya and Ranger managed to soak up almost as much rain in their one run as the rest of us did in an entire week in BC.

Bonnie Young's smooth male Hunter also earned a leg on the level one Ranch Dog course with a third place and he finished his level one Herding Trial Dog title on ducks. The following weekend, Bonnie couldn't participate in the AHBA trial because she was in Seattle cheering on her grand daughters in their Scottish Highland Dance competition.

Stanley got to do lots of work with me in Canada and the next weekend. In all, he earned a second leg toward his AKC Advanced B course title on ducks, had a qualifying score on the level three Ranch Dog course, finished level three Herding Trial Dog titles on sheep and ducks and earned four legs toward his AHBA herding championship in the process. And 'ittle baby Forest lost his herding virginity in Canada and earned a leg on the level 1 Ranch Dog course there. Awww, sniffle! They grow up so fast.

Speaking of losing one's herding virginity, Ric White made his debut in the herding arena at our Spokane AHBA event to earn a Herding Instinct leg on his rough tri Ditto. And, to make sure he's at least a step of Dad, Justin White handled his rough tri Shivan to her second leg to complete her AHBA Herding Instinct title.

Agility

A few of our members braved sweltering 100o heat and forest fires blocking the highway to participate in the Missoula Agility trials. Ric White and Ditto were rewarded for their efforts with a second place in Novice Standard agility for Ditto's first leg, and Linda Ward and CJ came home with a third place for CJ's first leg in the Novice Jumpers Preferred class.

Other brags, Department of Grandchildren

Bonnie Young's grand daughters have been dancing up a storm in Scottish Highland dance competitions. Some of you that attended Bonnie's "Sweet Sixteen Plus a Few Years" birthday party last year will remember Katie and Phoebe giving a little demonstration of their talent. They've both continued to do well in competition, earning high placements in Spokane and in National competitions in Seattle. Phoebe is even ready to go "pro" having won some actual prize money. Hey! This sounds more lucrative than dog showing; maybe I'll give it a try.

Hello and Goodby

Hello
While Linda waited nervously in Canada for news, Tanya Ward watched over Kit while she whelped out a single rough tri girl sired by Tanya's Ranger. So far the puppy has been answering to PIB, which either stands for Pain In the Butt, or Pretty In Black, depending on what she is doing at the moment.

And, Cece and Hope Glenn's rough sable Spice sired a litter of six sable rough boys and one sable rough girl out of Bonnie Young's Candy. I know Eileen White has been trying hard to keep this a secret, but she might consider stealing one of the boys away from Bonnie.

Goodby
Kathy Wager reports that they lost one of their collies on July 29th. Chez-D's Sealed with a Kiss (Shannon) passed away in her sleep at the age of 11 1/2 years old. Kathy says, "Although she was not interested in such athletic competitions as agility or herding (she flunked her instinct test on ducks. She was more interested in the collie puppies in the area located near the herding pen and the people who were watching the tests), she really loved people, animals and just life in general. Her best attribute was that she excelled in sweet collie temperament. We really miss her."
